General dentistry in Helsby and Frodsham

Check-ups, fillings, crowns and extractions. The everyday care that keeps your teeth comfortable and working, and finds problems while they are small.

Your first visit is a new patient examination, £100. We are on Chester Road in Helsby, and see adults and families from Frodsham and the villages around it.

What it covers

The everyday work

Four treatments make up most of general dentistry. This is what each one does for you.

  1. Check-ups

Your dentist checks your teeth, gums and the soft tissues of your mouth, with X-rays if you need them, and tells you what they find. Every other treatment starts here.

  2. Fillings

Repairs a tooth where decay or a small break has made a hole. The filling is built up in the tooth and finished in the same visit.

  3. Crowns, inlays and onlays

For a tooth with too little left to hold a filling. A crown covers the whole tooth, and an inlay or onlay rebuilds part of it. Each is made in a laboratory to fit, so it takes two visits.

  4. Extractions

Removing a tooth that is beyond repair. If a tooth can be saved, your dentist will say so, and if it needs to come out, they talk you through the options for the gap.

Where to go next. For a scale and polish, see hygiene appointments. If something hurts or has broken today, see emergency appointments. If a tooth is missing, dental implants and dentures can both replace it.

What it costs

What everyday treatment costs

Our private fees for the work on this page, once you have had your first examination. Where a fee says "from", the size of the job sets the final figure.

Private fees

Routine examinationA check-up, once you are with us£75
FillingBuilt up in the tooth, same visitfrom £140
Crown, inlay or onlayMade in a laboratory, two visits£595
ExtractionRemoving a tooth that is beyond repairfrom £220

Your own figure comes before any treatment. After your examination, your dentist gives you a written plan with the cost. All treatment is subject to a dental assessment, and individual results vary. See every private fee. NHS care is also available, subject to availability: see the charges.

Common questions

Questions before you book

The things people ring up to ask.

What happens at a first appointment?

Your dentist goes through your medical history, takes a full look at your teeth, gums and soft tissues, and asks what you want from your teeth. You leave knowing where your teeth stand and what, if anything, needs doing.

It has been a while since I saw a dentist. Where do I start?

Whenever you are ready to return to dental care, our team is here to welcome you. Mention it when you ring so we can book a longer appointment. Your dentist explains where things stand, and you agree the next steps together.

Will a filling hurt?

Your dentist numbs the tooth before starting. If you feel anything sharp, raise a hand and your dentist will pause.

How long does a crown take?

Two visits, because the crown is made in a laboratory to fit your tooth. At the first, your dentist prepares the tooth and takes an impression or scan. At the second, they fit the finished crown.

Can I spread treatment out?

Usually, yes. Your dentist will tell you if anything is urgent, and the rest can be planned at a pace that suits you.

How often will I need a check-up?

Your dentist sets the gap after looking at your teeth and gums. Healthy mouths can go longer between check-ups, and if yours needs closer watching, you will be told why.

Book your check-up

Request an appointment or give us a ring, whether it is time for your check-up or a tooth has been bothering you. If you are in pain today, ring rather than send the form, so we can find you the earliest time.

Was quite nervous going to the dentist, not been for a while. Needn't have worried, the whole team are lovely. Very professional, whilst being caring and putting me at ease.
